Students who study this course at Leaving Certificate level gain an insight into enterprise, management and the constant change management undergoes. Skills of analysis are developed throughout the course through studying the relationships that exist between the various stakeholders and how conflict and its resolution impact on these.

Students examine the development of a product or service from concept development through the various stages until it is launched on the market. The domestic and international worlds of business are explored through both scenarios given in ABQs and actual events as they unfold.

Topics covered include:

  • People in business, industrial relations, ownership structures, ethics and social responsibilities in business
  • Enterprise, management – the process, skills and activities, community development, monitoring the business, marketing, expansion
  • Global business, the European Union and the international trading environment.
