Approximately 93% of our students go on to third level education. This is the highest figure for any school in the diocese and is one of the highest in the West of Ireland. Our full-time guidance-counsellor provides career guidance and a counselling service to all students.
The guidance programme includes:
- Familiarising students with the content of third level courses available and other career information.
- Helping students through psychological tests to clarify their personal career aspirations.
- Counselling students, who are seeking help, through individual consultations.
- Teaching job search and decision-making skills.
- Arranging school visits to third level colleges and other venues, as well as inviting guest speakers to our College.
It is vital that all students are supported in their choice of future career. To ensure this, all students avail of career classes. There is also the option of individual interviews, where students can receive more guidance on their own future prospects and enhance their interview skills. Various aptitude tests are conducted to offer further indicators to the students.
Throughout the school year, students are kept up to date with any relevant upcoming career events and visits to different third level institutions are organised.
Guest speakers are invited into the school on various occasions to offer advice regarding career choice. Their contribution is much appreciated.
