Learning Support

At St. Muredach's we have a Special Educational Needs department to cater for the needs of each individual child.

All of our teachers adapt their teaching to accommodate all students' learning styles, thereby ensuring students perform to the best of their ability. We provide structure and support to students with SEN.

Aims of Learning Support

The principal aim of Learning Support is to optimise the teaching and learning process at St Muredach's. This helps students with learning difficulties to become proficient literacy and numeracy skills.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To enable students to participate in the full curriculum for their year level.
  • To develop self-esteem and positive attitudes about school and learning.
  • To enable students to become independent learners and to monitor their own progress.
  • To provide supplementary teaching and additional support in English and/or Mathematics.
  • To involve parents in supporting their son through effective parent-support programmes.
  • To promote collaboration amongst teachers in the implementation of whole-school policies on learning support for students.
  • To establish early intervention programmes designed to enhance learning and to prevent/reduce difficulties in learning.
  • To enhance the self-esteem and self-image of the learner.

Principles

Our effective learning programmes are based on the following principles:

  • Effective whole-school policies and parental involvement.
  • Provision for intensive early intervention.
  • Direction of resources towards students in greatest need.
